Polytechnique recounts the tragic events that happened at Montreal's Engeneering University on December 6th, 1989. A gunman entered the school and murdered a dozen female students. Shooting in black and white was interesting for the set decoration department as we learned to look at sets in terms of the juxtaposition of textures rather than color palettes. We learned to look specifically at objects' shapes and materials and textures because, depending on their hue, colors can become the same value of grey on the black and white spectrum.
